Why Is My Child Coughing If He/She Does Not Have a Runny Nose?

Para nasal sinuses open to upper part of the nose. Owing to anatomical reasons the secretion produced here may flow backwards more easily than towards the nostrils on the face.

This secretion flowing to the pharynx may make the child cough. The younger the child is, the shorter his/her pharyngotympanic tube is. Therefore the flowing secretion can be coughed into the middle ear, which may lead to inflammation.

The need for grommets or antibiotics can be prevented with the regular use of the Baby-Vac during a cold.
